Carnivore... what are the mistakes you can make?

A lot of people are embracing the carnivore lifestyle as a way to improve their health and well-being. While eliminating carbohydrates and other plant-based foods from their diet can lead to weight loss and reduced inflammation, it’s important to be wary of common mistakes that could compromise results. Here are some common mistakes you'll want to avoid:

Overeating

Meat and other animal products are much more calorie-dense than vegetables and fruits. Therefore, many people who practice a carnivore lifestyle fall into the trap of overeating, leading to weight gain and an increased risk of chronic illnesses. It's essential to control your caloric intake and limit portions, just as you would with any other diet.

Ignoring micronutrients

Although animal products provide essential nutrients such as protein, iron, and vitamin B12, it’s essential to be aware of what’s missing. The carnivore diet lacks fiber, vitamin C, and antioxidants; therefore, those who practice this way of eating must find alternatives. Incorporating organ (Guts!) meats, eggs, dairy, and fish is a great way to ensure proper nutrient intake.

Forgetting the importance of hydration

Meat and other animal products have a very low water content compared to fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it's essential to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration. Try to incorporate water, coffee, tea, and other low-calorie beverages into your diet, and depending too much on meat for hydration can cause kidney problems.

Ignoring digestive issues

For many people, eating only animal products can lead to digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, and diarrhea. It's important to listen to your body and adjust your diet accordingly. Incorporating fermented foods, such as yogurt, and avoiding processed meats and excess fat can help alleviate digestive issues.

Failing to maintain a variety

Variety is often the key to a healthy life and a healthy diet. Although incorporating animal products is an essential component of a carnivore lifestyle, it's important to avoid over-reliance on just a few types of meats and products. Experiment with new recipes and incorporate meats that you haven't tried before, such as elk or rabbit.

Keep in mind that the carnivore diet isn't the right choice for everyone, and you should always consult with your doctor before starting any new diet or making significant changes to your nutrition intake. By being mindful of these common mistakes, you can embrace the carnivore lifestyle more successfully and see noticeable results.
